2025 Endeavour Impact Report Celebrating a Decade of Empowering Bermuda’s Youth

Endeavour, a Bermuda-registered charity, released its 2025 Impact Report, celebrating a decade of empowering Bermuda’s youth through experiential education and sailing.

Since its founding in 2015, Endeavour has been dedicated to building self-confidence, life skills, and a love of learning among youth across the island. Through inclusive, hands-on programmes, Endeavour engages young people in experiential learning that combines sailing with Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM) education. 

The 2025 Impact Report highlights Endeavour’s measurable impact in fostering confident, engaged learners, connecting youth to Bermuda’s waters, and opening pathways to future educational and career opportunities. Click here for the full report.

Endeavour’s programmes:

1. STEAM Education through Sailing Programme (Ages 11–12): Five-day immersive learning integrating sailing with STEAM lessons in geometry, buoyancy, wind, weather, and environmental stewardship.
2. Graduate Programme (Ages 12–14): Builds sailing and water safety skills while connecting youth from across Bermuda.
3. Assistant Instructor Programme (Ages 15–16): Develops leadership and coaching skills as students support younger sailors.
4. Maritime Career Springboard Programme (Ages 16+): Prepares youth for maritime careers with hands-on training, certifications, career exposure, and networking opportunities.
5. No Limits Sailing Programme (Ages 5–18): Provides inclusive STEAM learning and sailing experiences for students with autism and developmental challenges.

Endeavour engaged PricewaterhouseCoopers Advisory Limited to assist in assessing the social impact of Endeavour’s programmes.

In 2024-2025, 757 young people were engaged in Endeavour’s programmes accessing more than 2,400 hours of experiential learning including over 900 hours of academic instruction in math and science.

Since 2015, Endeavour has:

• Engaged 8,581 young people across Bermuda
• Delivered 24,000+ hours of hands-on instruction
• Engaged students from 31 schools island-wide
• Established 50+ community partnerships

Impact data from the 2025 report shows:

• 100% of Assistant Instructor and Maritime Career Springboard participants reported improved leadership and communication skills.
• 100% of teachers confirmed student benefits from the No Limits Sailing Programme.
• 97% of students in the Graduate Programme reported improved water safety knowledge.
• 94% of students expressed greater interest in engineering and 92% in science after completing the Endeavour STEAM Education through Sailing Programme.

The report also shares inspiring voices from students, parents and teachers: 

“Sailing into the open ocean built my confidence and taught me how to work together to handle challenges,” said Allan, a STEAM Education through Sailing Programme participant.

“I’ve learned I’m more confident and responsible than I thought. Helping younger sailors showed me I can lead, and teach on the water. I’d recommend the Assistant Instructor Programme for building confidence, leadership, and sailing skills,” said Nazri, Assistant Instructor and Berkeley Institute student.

“The Springboard experience shaped me in ways I never expected – beyond certifications, I gained leadership, responsibility, and a deeper respect for the ocean. Each day reinforces safety, teamwork, confidence – skills that extend far beyond sailing,” shared Siyon Paynter, Springboard Grad and Endeavour Programme Instructor Intern.

“As his mother, I can see he has improved his confidence. He’s increasingly interested in opportunities within sailing and the maritime industry. Endeavour shows our children what’s possible and opens doors many families didn’t even know existed,” said Donnika Butterfield, parent of an Endeavour Graduate.

“Students connected classroom learning to hands-on sailing through maritime research, boat building, and sailing. They studied wind, knots, simple machines, applying these skills on the water. This hands-on approach encouraged students to take risks, make mistakes and to challenge themselves more while actively engaging in learning,” said Zalika Millet, Home School Teacher. 

“I believe everything that the Endeavour STEAM Education through Sailing Programme encourages gives students an overall understanding of sailing and strong development of teamwork and peer relationships. The hands-on approach allows students to discover their own learning capabilities in a completely different setting,” said Rhona Pedro, Science Teacher at Sandys Secondary Middle School.

In 2025, Endeavour celebrated its tenth anniversary with community initiatives including the Bermuda Day Parade, Harbour Nights, and a World Oceans Day coastal clean-up, highlighting its commitment to environmental stewardship and community engagement.

“Since our start in 2015, we’ve championed inclusivity and accessibility, creating opportunities for youth of all backgrounds and abilities to explore, grow, and thrive,” said Jennifer Pitcher, Endeavour’s Executive Director. “Endeavour remains committed to expanding access to opportunities for Bermuda’s youth, strengthening maritime career pathways, and leveraging sailing as a powerful platform for STEAM education and skills development.”
